Changing Things

I'm in the middle of changing the background so you'll have to bear with me at the moment. I've got a few that I'm experimenting with at the moment. I'm too tired to finish it tonight but will have another play tomorrow.

Saturday 30th October

Weight: 64.0 Exercise: 60 Min Run/Walk - Outside Food Intake: Breakfast: Bowl of Nutri Grain with Skinny Milk Lunch: Herb Foccacia with Ham & Cheese Dinner: Honey Soy Pork with Vegetables, 2 Slices Grain Bread with W/W Margerine, Low Fat Lemon Tart Yoghurt It was such a beautiful day today that I dropped Alana at my parent's house and went for a run outside. It was a really good run too and I felt quite strong in my legs (and my lungs kept up too!!). Mostly ran, with a couple of small walks just to get the breath back. I've bought new trainers and thought that it may take a little while for them to be broken in, but they are just so comfortable. I always have to loosen the laces at the end as I have quite wide feet and they have been known to go numb, but with these trainers I've had no problems at all (they're Reebok ones). I normally wear Saucony but these ones were reduced so thought I'd give them a go. Good buy I think!!

Friday 29th October

Weight: 65.4 Exercise: Weight Workout, Situps Food Intake: Breakfast: Small bowl of Porridge with Golden Syrup, 2 Slices of Grain Toast with W/W Margerine Morning Tea: 97% Fat Free Banana Muesli Bar Lunch: Chow Mein, Low Fat Strawberry Yoghurt Afternoon Tea: Apple Dinner: Herb Foccacia Roll with Ham All is well!! It's been a really good week for me. Have definitely got over the chocolate cravings at work now. Weekends are usually my downfall so I'll have to see what it brings.

Love/Hate Relationship

I am the first to admit that my biggest downfall in life has always been Chocolate. If somebody offers it to me, I find it really hard to resist and say NO! I also find it hard to say no to lollies as well. Kids birthday parties are one of the hardest things for me to go to. They have all the food there that I love. I breathe a sigh of relief if Alana gets invited to a party at McDonalds or Hungry Jacks (phew!!) I remember when I first started working, I would pop into the Milk Bar on the way to work and grab $1's worth of Humphrey Bear lollies (not sure if they make them any more). $1 was alot of lollies in those days (1980). I never had pocket money as a child, so when I started working and had my own money I was like a kid in a lolly shop!!! I also remember when I was married to my second husband that we'd go for a drive and on the way home would stop at the Milk Bar and buy tons of lollies, chocolate and biscuits, get home and just scoff the whole lot!! Used to smoke a bit of dope too, but only socially, so when I knew that we had friends coming over, I'd trot along to the Milk Bar and buy lots of lollies. It's always been in me, and I can't for the life of me figure out where it came from. Was it because I was deprived as a child? We did get some nice things. Fish & Chips most Thursday nights, we got biscuits as a treat too. But I can't remember there being much chocolate (if any) in the house. Probably because it was too expensive (there are 5 of us kids!). I suppose I should thank my parents for not filling us full of junk food as a child, but I still look back and feel that I did miss out on some of the nicer things to eat. Being the fussy cow that I am, I don't like all chocolate. I'm not really into Dove Chocolate (Dove Bar Icecreams are another thing altogether!). I don't like Turkish Delight either. And I can live without any of the coffee centred chocolates. I can also say no to Truffles (apart from Champagne Truffles from Davina Chocolates in the UK). Also not really enticed by those chocolate shells that seem to be all the rage too. I am a big fan of dark chocolate....A Rum & Raisin chocolate bar can be devoured in little under 5 mins!! Love Raspberry Licorice covered in dark chocolate (Darrel Lea), and a bar of 70% cocoa Chocolate by Lindt doesn't last very long around me. Then there's toffee. I can go through a bag of toffee without even thinking about it. The harder the toffee, the better. My all time favourite is Cherry Ripe. When I was living in the UK, my mum used to send them out to me regularly. Since being back in Oz I've gone off them a bit. I have moved onto Picnic Chocettes, but only the Chocettes. Picnic bars themseleves don't really do it for me as they have too many peanuts in them, as do Snickers. If I want a big hit without spending too much money, I'll get a Mars Bar. That'll bring me out in a sweat every time!! I could go on for ever about chocolate and lollies, but I've probably said enough!! Hope not too many of you are drooling!!

Thursday 28th October

Weight: 63.8 Exercise: NO Food Intake: Breakfast: Bowl of Porridge with Golden Syrup, Crust toasted with W/W Margerine Morning Tea: 4 VitaWheats with Low Fat Cheese Lunch: Egg Salad, Low Fat Strawberry Yoghurt Afternoon Tea: Low Fat Cheese Sandwich on Grain Bread, Crust with W/W Margerine Dinner: Chow Mein (home made) Well another day passes without the lure of chocolate. I'm feeling quite strong now, and as my weight is moving down the scales quite steadily it gives me a bit more motivation. The scales say I'm at 10 stone this morning. Haven't been there for about 18 months, so something is working (no idea what it is!!). I'm going to Oaks Day next Thursday and I have this slinky black dress that shows every little curve and bump so I really have to keep this up so that I feel confident and comfortable in the dress. I've got a really nice black sheer sexy top that goes over the top of it so at least I don't have to hold my stomach in for the whole day. I have already given myself permission to have a few drinks, and as long as I don't go too stupid on the food hopefully it won't sabotage all my hard work.

I love food...but only some food!!

I am the first to confess that I absolutely adore food. But I am also very fussy about food. There are alot of foods that I don't like, so I can often find it very difficult to order food if we're out at a restaurant. I've never liked fish or anything that swims in the sea. Even as a child I remember holidaying up at Bonnie Doon and one of our friends used to catch fish, then cook it in beer batter. Everyone used to rave about this beer batter, but I used to take the batter off the fish and just eat the batter. The only fish that I can stomach is Tuna out of a can, and then it can only be Tuna in Springwater, and I can only eat it cold. Can't eat any type of Tuna Mornay stuff. The smell of it makes me feel quite ill. Then there's my dislike of Mushrooms. Can't stomach the slimy texture of them when they're cooked, and my brain tells me that we shouldn't really be eating anything that's a fungus!! So if I ever get mushrooms on my plate then I have to pick them all out before I start eating. I'm okay with basic cheeses, but really don't enjoy eating any of the more exotic ones. Can live without Brie, Camembert, Blue Vein (horrible smelly stuff that!). I do like tasty cheese and I'm fine with parmesan too. Garlic...what can I say...eewww!! The smell puts me off even before it's got anywhere near my mouth. I love pasta and italian food, but I always have to ask if the dish I'm ordering has garlic in it. If it has, I normally have to change my order. I can't stand the smell of it on other people, like when it's coming out of their pores, so I'm certainly not going to eat it if it makes ME smell like that too!! I don't like pork crackling. In fact I don't like anything that's got fat or skin on it. Can't eat bacon with fat. Have to cut it all off. Same with any kind of meat. If there's a bit of fat on it, no matter how small, I have to cut it all off before I can eat it. And my meat has to be well done. I know that alot of Chefs can't understand us people that don't like meat that's got blood still coming out of it, but for me, it's got to be like it's been nailed to a tree in a bushfire. I'm also not into any kind of pickles, gherkins, onions, olives...all that kind of stuff. Give me good old salt and vinegar chips, BBQ shapes or Kettle Chips any day. Also can't eat pate or anything like that. Just doesn't do it for me. On the veggies side, I'm pretty good there. Don't like Celery or radishes, but can handle pretty much anything else. With the fruit, I pretty much like most things. Not into Avocados though. There's more but I think that's probably enough for you to get my gist!! I'm a fussy cow!

Thursday 21st October

Weight: 66.0 Exercise: NO Food Intake: Breakfast: 1 Croissant, 2 Slices Multigrain Toast with W/W Margerine Morning Tea: 2 Mandarins Lunch: Chicken in Teryaki Sauce with Brown Rice, Low Fat Apple Pie Yoghurt Afternoon Tea: Apple, 1/2 punnet Strawberries Dinner: Cheese Sandwich on Muligrain Bread, crust with Cream Cheese Spread Oh My God!! I did it....I got by without any chocolate or biscuits, or lollies today. I've got a stinking headache to prove it too!!! It was hard not to dip my hand into that little chocolate box, or the biscuit tin but somehow I got through the day without eating them. Let's see if I can do it tomorrow as well!!

A Little Bit About Me

Firstly I wanted to say a big thankyou to Cryptic for his really thoughtful comments. I thought I might just give you a little bit of a look into how I think and why I do the things I do (though half the time I'm not sure myself!!). I'm not huge on cooking if I don't have the time. As I'm not getting home until about 6pm I'm usually starving by then. But I firstly have to get Alana organised, which means bathed and fed. She's not the quickest of kids to get things done, so it takes a bit of a push and a prod to actually get her in the bath, and even longer to try and get her out (she's a bit of a fish in the water....really loves it). Then by the time I've managed to get her fed (she's a pretty fussy eater and sometimes I have to literally bribe her to eat!!)it's then time to do some reading (she brings a reader home from school to read each evening). In between all this I have to decide what to eat for me and my man. Normally I forget to defrost something from the freezer, so it's ususally something easy, or some meat chucked in the microwave to dethaw, then find a sauce from a bottle that's always stashed in the cupboard, a bit of rice or pasta (quick and easy....but then saying that, Brown Rice takes forever to cook!), and voila - dinner is served. If I do have the time, mainly weekends, then I do like to cook. With the summer coming up I'm looking forward to using the BBQ more and just chucking some salad on the plate with my bit of steak or chicken. But I can also go overboard with that too. Get to the butcher and there's all this great food to choose from. Kebabs, fantastic flavoured sausages, hamburgers, marinated chops etc etc. Sometimes it looks like I've bought a whole side of an animal!! At least if it's all cooked up, it can be eaten cold the next day. Never goes to waste in our house! I've probably tried just about every diet and most ways of eating that are around. Done the cabbage soup diet, tried low carb, south beach, low fat, etc etc. I've also got most of the diet books on my shelf too, along with all the cook books to go with them. Most of my friends say that I don't look overweight and I shouldn't really worry about my weight...unfortunately I do, and always have - probably since my first husband banged into me most days that I was fat and ugly, so I understand where this obsession with my weight comes from, which doesn't really help me though!! I do hide my weight well, mostly with clothes that don't show my blubby belly or flabby arms, but as summer approaches I get that awful feeling that I'm going to have to hold in my stomach for the whole time!! I'm sorry Cryptic but I could never throw away my scales. They are like a piece of me and I love them (or on bad days I loathe them) to death. They've got the body fat thing on them too, so I also know if I've gained or lost fat, although I tend not to use this as much as it has to be programmed in each time I want to check. My man bought them for me as a christmas present a couple of years ago - strange present I know, but he knows me so well, and for me they were a great present!! I love going to the gym now. I lived in the UK for 10 years and there was only one gym that I actually enjoyed going to. I've been to quite a few as well, but if it doesn't do it for me, then I tend to not bother that much, even though I know that I am paying money to do it and it's wasted if I don't go. My current gym is literally just down the road and it's fantastic. Has all the equipment that I need, there are plenty of classes as well if I feel the urge to do a group class and it is a women's only gym so I don't have to worry about what I look like as there are no men ogling!! My only problem with my workouts is that I am a person of routine, and as I have a great routine worked out, I do tend to follow it to the letter, although I have increased the weight and repititons. The same with my runs on the treadmill. I always allow an hour, but am trying to up the distance so that I'm running the whole hour. Once I've achieved that, I'll start upping the pace so that I beat my previous distance. I'm not very imaginative when it comes to workouts and once I've had enough I just leave. Hate spending too much time at the gym as there's so much to do. Saturday and Sunday are my favourite time at the gym as I'm not restricted by time, so I also use the massage chair (great invention!). I'm yet to use the steam room as I haven't really had a spare 20 minutes to just sit down and sweat!! Must make time for that too! Unfortunately my partner has just started a new job which means that he leaves the house at 6.15 in the morning and most evenings does not get home until about 8pm. Now the gym I go to closes at 9pm and that would not give me enough time for a workout. I'm not very good at going out when it's dark, so walking the streets at night is not an option for me either. As I mentioned in a previous post, I could get up at 5am to get a walk/jog in, but 5am is just too early and my body just refuses to get out of bed at that time. I could always do some circuit training at home, but I don't want to wake Alana up. I am one of those people who thrives on exercise when the music is at 100 decibels and the bass is pumping!! Give me hard house music anyday to exercise to. The beat is perfect for a really hard jog and is so motivating. Unfortunately at 6am I don't think the neighbours would appreciate my music!! So that's a bit more insight into the life and times of me!! May explain a few of my behaviours and eating habits!!

I tried to find the least offensive food in the food court, but the chicken schnitzel on the Jacket Potato really caught my eye.
